Fazlur Rahman

Fazlur Rahman was ‘at home’, not just physically but also intellectually, both in Pakistan and in the West. He brought a towering intellect and mastery of several disciplines to bear on some of the most pressing questions touching Muslims in modern times. He strove to remain faithful to the core teachings of the Qur’an and the on-going Islamic tradition whilst finding ways to express those timeless truths in ways that are intellectually satisfying for the modern global mind and to take seriously the methods of contemporary scholarship without necessarily feeling bound to accept the conclusions drawn from them.
